Stages of Bedsores: Everyone deserves justice for
their pain and suffering.
Stages of Bedsores, Pressure Sores, Decubitis Ulcers
The information below is for guideline purposes only.
If you have a sore, demand immediate medical attention. Stages can progress very quickly and you should alleviate pressure immediately. Patients should be rotated every few hours.

Stage1:

Stage 2:
Stage 1 sores are not open wounds. The skin may be painful, but it has no breaks or tears.
Skin may appear reddened, like a bruise. The integrity of the skin remains intact but the area is at high risk of further breakdown. It is crucial that the area is identified promptly, since with proper treatment these sores should heal within 60 days.
At this stage the skin may break open, wear away, or form an ulcer which is usually tender and painful. The sore expands into deeper layers of the skin. It can look like a scrape, blister, or even a shallow crater in the skin. Sometimes this stage looks like a blister filled with clear fluid. Skin may begin to die.

Stage 3:

At stage 3 the sore worsens and extends beneath the skin surface, forming a small crater. There may be no pain at this stage due to nerve damage. The risks of tissue death and infection are high. Surgery may take place to minimize further damage.
At stage 4 the pressure sore is very deep, reaching into muscle and bone and causing extensive damage. Damage to deeper tissues, tendons, and joints may occur. You may even see to the bone. Serious complications, such as osteomyelitis (infection of the bone) or sepsis (infection carried through the blood) can occur.
Lawsuits for victims and/or families of Stages 3 and 4 often receive the highest financial compensation as pain & suffering, medical complications, and even death, may occur.
However, earlier stages may be legally actionable as they can quickly progress and cause many issues for the patient.
Stage 4:
